Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya made an unannounced visit to Kyiv to show support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, which now includes North Korean troops. This is the first visit by a Japanese minister since Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba took office, and it comes amid uncertainty over future G7 financial aid following Donald Trump's U.S. presidential win. Japan has been supporting Ukraine and sanctioning Russia since the 2022 invasion.
