India aims to double its universities to 2,500 to enroll half its students, up from 29%, CEO says.

India needs to double its number of universities to 2,500 to enroll 50% of its students, according to NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam. Currently, only 29% of students are enrolled. Subrahmanyam also highlighted India's vast digital infrastructure, which has enabled significant innovations like the UPI and positions India as a leader in climate-friendly technologies.
