Christmas trees may harbor praying mantis egg sacks, which can hatch indoors; experts advise inspection and removal.

Christmas trees may carry small, brown clumps resembling pinecones, which are actually egg sacks of praying mantises, each containing up to 200 eggs. These are harmless but can be bothersome if hatched indoors. It's advised to inspect trees before purchase and remove any egg sacks by cutting off the branch and disposing of it outside. The National Christmas Tree Association recommends shaking trees outside after bringing them home and using indoor-safe insect sprays if necessary.
