South Carolina Supreme Court pauses executions until January 3 due to holiday scheduling concerns.

The South Carolina Supreme Court has paused executions until at least January 3, following requests from lawyers representing four inmates to avoid the strain of consecutive executions during the holidays. This decision comes after South Carolina resumed executions in 2021 following a 13-year hiatus, partly due to difficulties in obtaining lethal injection drugs. Two inmates have been executed since September, and the court had planned to space out future executions every five weeks.
