RCMP to equip 90% of frontline officers with body cameras by Nov 2025, funded by $240M over six years.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) will begin deploying body cameras to thousands of frontline officers nationwide, starting next week. The initiative aims to have 90% of frontline officers equipped with cameras by November 2025. The federal government has committed $240 million over six years to fund the program, with an additional $50 million annually for operational costs. Cameras will be activated during service calls, including crimes in progress, mental health crises, and protests, but not during intimate searches. The RCMP may disclose footage when it serves the public interest, and the public can request footage through the Privacy Act.
