The New York State Department of Transportation officially designated a 32-mile stretch of State Route 17 as Interstate 86, improving safety and mobility. This transformation began in 2008, costing over $29.7 million for upgrades like widened lanes and bridge repairs. An additional $47 million project to further rehabilitate a 5.7-mile stretch is set for completion by the end of 2025.
