Saulius Skvernelis, a former Lithuanian Prime Minister and leader of the Democratic Union "For Lithuania," has been elected as the speaker of Lithuania's 14th Seimas, receiving 107 votes in a secret ballot. His election was backed by a coalition agreement between the Social Democratic Party, his party, and Dawn of Nemunas, securing a majority in parliament. Skvernelis previously held roles as interior minister and prime minister, starting his career as a lecturer at the Lithuanian Police Academy.
