Former fraud convict Russell Laffitte may get a new trial due to Fifth Amendment rights violation.

Russell Laffitte, formerly convicted of fraud and an alleged accomplice of Alex Murdaugh, may get a new trial. The U.S. Court of Appeals vacated his convictions, citing a violation of his Fifth Amendment rights due to the mishandling of juror dismissals during his original trial. The court ruled that Laffitte was not given the chance to oppose the dismissal of jurors. The case has been sent back to District Court for a new trial.
