Nelson electrician's license suspended for two years after his negligence led to a handyman's electrocution death.

A Nelson electrician, Stephen Burton, had his license suspended for two years after his negligent work led to the electrocution death of a handyman in 2020. Burton was sentenced to eight months of home detention and ordered to pay $150,000 in reparations. He failed to properly test the electrical work he did on a rangehood, issuing a false Certificate of Compliance. The Electrical Workers Registration Board aims to ensure proper training and safety in electrical work to prevent such incidents.
