Miami banker John Christopher Polit admits to laundering $16 million in bribes from Odebrecht for his father.
John Christopher Polit, a former Miami banker, admitted to laundering $16 million in bribes paid to his father, Ecuador's former Comptroller General Carlos Ramon Polit Faggioni. The bribes came from Brazilian construction firm Odebrecht S.A. between 2010 and 2015. Polit faces up to 10 years in prison and is set to be sentenced on January 30. His father was sentenced to 10 years in April. Odebrecht S.A. previously pleaded guilty to paying nearly $800 million in bribes to officials in 12 countries.
