Alexander Shelley, 45, will succeed Carl St. Clair as Pacific Symphony Orchestra's music director in 2026.

Alexander Shelley, 45, will become the music director of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra starting in the 2026-27 season, succeeding Carl St. Clair who has held the role for 35 years. Shelley, currently the music director of Canada's National Arts Centre Orchestra, will serve as music director designate in 2025-26 before his five-year contract begins. St. Clair will transition to music director laureate.
