ACCC investigates if Coles and Woolworths are hindering independent grocers in Australia.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is investigating whether major supermarkets Coles and Woolworths are hindering independent grocers. Metcash, which supplies many IGA stores, says independent grocers can compete better by lowering prices. However, sales at Metcash-supplied independent grocers have been declining, while Aldi, Coles, and Woolworths have expanded. The ACCC is also looking into whether smaller stores by major chains create barriers for independents. The final report is due in February.
