Tulsa holds memorial for World War I vet killed in 1921 Race Massacre, unveiling gravestone and monument.

On November 12, 2024, Tulsa, Oklahoma, held a memorial service for C.L. Daniel, a World War I veteran identified as a victim of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. A gravestone for Daniel and a monument for other victims were unveiled at Oaklawn Cemetery. The massacre, one of the worst acts of violence against Black people in U.S. history, resulted in around 300 deaths and the destruction of over 1,200 homes and businesses. The U.S. Department of Justice is conducting a civil rights review, with findings expected by year's end.
