Retail NZ urges tougher sentences for crimes against retail workers, citing daily threats and violence.

Retail New Zealand is urging the justice system to take crimes against retail workers more seriously, arguing that the proposed Sentencing (Reform) Amendment Bill does not adequately deter such crimes. CEO Carolyn Young testified that nearly all retail workers face threats or violence daily, leading to physical injuries and mental health issues. She contends that the bill should not differentiate in treating retail workers based on workplace size or location.
