Restoration of Istanbul's historic hammams aims to revive Ottoman bathing traditions, now mainly drawing tourists.

Istanbul's historic hammams, or bathhouses, are being restored to preserve Ottoman-era bathing traditions. Once vital for socializing and celebrating life events, these hammams are now largely tourist attractions, with only 30% of customers being locals. The Zeyrek Cinili Hammam, a 500-year-old bathhouse, reopened after a 13-year restoration and now includes a museum explaining Ottoman bathing rituals. These efforts aim to keep the cultural heritage alive for future generations.
