NH judge reduces $38 million verdict in youth detention abuse case to $475,000 due to state law.

A New Hampshire judge has ordered to reduce a $38 million verdict in a case of abuse at a youth detention center to $475,000 due to state law capping claims against the state. The lawsuit, filed by David Meehan who alleged abuse in the 1990s, was the first of over 1,100 filed. The judge denied requests for a new trial or to set aside parts of the verdict, though a new trial could still be an option.
