National Grid plans to install smart meters for 540,000 Western New York customers by 2027, offering real-time energy monitoring.

National Grid is set to install over 4,000 smart meters in Western New York starting in January, with a goal to equip around 540,000 customers by 2027. The meters will allow customers to monitor their energy use in real-time through a mobile app and help National Grid respond faster to power outages. Customers can opt out but will face an additional $11.64 monthly fee for manual meter readings.
