Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) has rejected the restart of the Tsuruga No. 2 reactor due to potential active faults beneath it, marking the first such rejection under post-Fukushima safety standards. This is a setback for Japan's plan to increase nuclear energy use to secure a stable energy supply and meet carbon neutrality goals by 2050. The reactor has been offline since 2011.
