UN report warns nitrous oxide emissions are accelerating climate change and could rise by 30% by 2050.

A UN report warns that nitrous oxide emissions, a potent greenhouse gas 270 times more effective than CO2, are accelerating climate change and harming the ozone layer. These emissions, mainly from agriculture, have risen by 40% since 1980 and could increase another 30% by 2050 without action. The report calls for urgent measures to cut emissions by over 40%, which could prevent up to 20 million premature deaths and avoid 235 billion tons of CO2 equivalent emissions by 2100.
