Portuguese woman sentenced to 3 years for trying to smuggle €479,245 worth of cannabis into Ireland.

A 60-year-old Portuguese woman, Maria Lucilia Martins, was sentenced to three years and four months in prison for attempting to smuggle €479,245 worth of cannabis into Ireland through Shannon Airport. Found with 30 packs of cannabis resin and 22 packs of cannabis herb, Martins pleaded guilty. Judge Francis Comerford reduced the initial 80-month sentence to 40 months, considering her early plea, good character, and age.
