Man sentenced to 4.5 years for tricking wife into leaving Australia, leaving her stranded abroad.
Mohamed Ahmed Omer, 52, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for deceiving his wife into traveling to Sudan and leaving her there, while returning to Australia with their two children. This is the first exit-trafficking case in Victoria. Omer changed their flight tickets and withdrew support for his wife's visa, leaving her stranded for 16 months. The judge noted Omer treated his wife as "a chattel" and subjected her to abuse.
