India may relax spending limits to meet its capital expenditure target amid slowed progress.

India is considering relaxing quarterly spending limits to reach its capital expenditure target of 11.11 trillion rupees for the financial year 2024/2025. Federal spending slowed during April-June due to national elections, reaching only 44% of the planned annual expenditure by September. Capital expenditure was at 4.15 trillion rupees, or 37% of the annual target, compared to 4.9 trillion rupees a year earlier. Despite the potential adjustment to spending limits, the government has no plans to alter its market borrowing for the year.
