Eritrean journalist Dawit Isaak awarded for press freedom after 23 years of secret detention.

Eritrean-Swedish journalist Dawit Isaak, imprisoned without trial for over 23 years, has been awarded the Edelstam Prize for his dedication to freedom of expression. Isaak co-founded Eritrea's first independent newspaper, Setit, and was arrested in 2001 for criticizing the government. The Edelstam Foundation, which awarded the prize, is urging Eritrea to release Isaak and disclose his location, while also calling for international pressure to advocate for human rights reforms in the country.
