JD Vance, a former Marine and vice president-elect, celebrated the Marine Corps' 249th birthday. Vance, who served from 2003 to 2007 and was deployed to Iraq, has credited the Marine Corps for his strategic thinking and preparation for adulthood. He will be the first Marine to become Vice President, following Al Gore, the last enlisted vice president who served in the Army.
