Fern Sunde, WWII's first female deep-sea radio operator, to be honored with statues in Canada and Norway.

Fern Sunde, the first woman to work as a deep-sea radio operator during WWII, will be honored with identical bronze statues in her hometown of Cobourg, Canada, and Farsund, Norway. The Norwegian statue, titled "Make Waves," will be unveiled on May 8, 2025, the 80th anniversary of the war's end. Sunde's achievements inspired other women to join the radio operator ranks during the conflict.
