FEMA extended the deadline for North Carolina residents affected by Hurricane Helene to apply for assistance until January 7, 2025. The hurricane impacted 39 counties, and FEMA has already approved over $213 million for over 126,000 households. In Banner Elk, 90% of water and sewer services have been restored, but repairs in some areas will continue. A central distribution point for supplies will be established in Newland.
