As of December 1, 2024, the N4 highway in South Africa will no longer accept magstripe card payments for tolls. Trans African Concessions, which manages the N4 toll route, announced the change before the December holiday travel season. Motorists are advised to use alternative payment methods such as contactless cards, smart devices with payment apps, TRAC tags, or cash.
