Tribes in Manipur oppose India's border fencing plan, fearing it will damage community ties with Myanmar.

Ten tribal groups in Manipur, including the Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum, oppose India's plan to fence the Myanmar border and end the Free Movement Regime (FMR). They argue it would harm social, cultural, and economic ties between border communities. Mizoram and Nagaland also oppose the move, while the Indian government plans to fence the entire 1,643 km border for security reasons.
