Ireland's president warns Africa's debt payments will hit $163B in 2024, urging global action.

Ireland's President Michael Higgins warned that Africa's debt service payments will reach $163 billion in 2024, more than double the $61 billion paid in 2010. Higgins called for global collaboration to address Africa’s crises, including climate change and food insecurity, and proposed capping debt service at 15% of revenue to save Sub-Saharan Africa at least $97 billion annually for social and environmental programs. The African Development Bank praised Ireland's commitment to Africa's development.
