Former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan faces trial for bribery and racketeering, accused of using his role to secure jobs via favorable legislation.
Former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan's corruption trial resumed this week. Fidel Marquez, a cooperating witness, testified about a scheme where Madigan and co-defendant Michael McClain allegedly used their roles to secure jobs for associates by passing legislation favorable to ComEd. Charged with 23 counts of bribery and racketeering, Madigan's defense claims the actions were legal favors. The trial, initially estimated to last 10-11 weeks, may extend to 13 weeks.
