Deputy shoots and kills man attacking wife with hammer during domestic dispute in Polk County.

A Polk County deputy, Christopher Johnston, shot and killed Charles Franklin Edwards Jr., 52, who was attacking his wife with a hammer during a domestic dispute. Despite commands to drop the weapon, Edwards charged at the deputy and was shot twice. Edwards died later at the hospital, while his wife, though seriously injured, is expected to survive. Multiple investigations are underway by the 10th Judicial Circuit, Polk County Sheriff's Office, Medical Examiner's Office, and State Attorney's Office.
