Australia names Chris Evans as its first Anti-Slavery Commissioner to fight human trafficking and forced labor.

Australia has appointed Chris Evans, a former Labor senator, as its first Anti-Slavery Commissioner, starting in December. Evans will work with the government to combat modern slavery practices, including human trafficking and forced labor. This follows a report estimating 16,400 people in modern slavery in New South Wales, mostly temporary migrant workers. Australia has committed $8 million over four years to support this role.
