The Scottish Government has reversed its ban on wood-burning stoves in new homes, effective January 1, 2025. This decision, part of the New Build Heat Standard, addresses concerns from rural communities reliant on such heating sources. While wood-burning stoves, bioenergy, and peat heating are now permitted, the prohibition on mains gas and oil boilers as primary heating systems will remain to support climate action and reduce emissions from new buildings.
