New Zealand defines "persistent child poverty" to assess ongoing low income among children.

New Zealand's Government Statistician, Mark Sowden, has defined "persistent child poverty" as children in households earning less than 60% of the median disposable income, before housing costs, in the current year and for at least two of the previous three years. This measurement, required by the Child Poverty Reduction Act 2018, aims to assess ongoing low income among children and inform policies to enhance their wellbeing. Data will be gathered through surveys and administrative sources.
