A study shows nasal autoantibodies may lead to milder COVID-19 infections and aid testing.

A study from Emory University found that nasal autoantibodies are linked to milder COVID-19 infections, providing protection by regulating the immune response and preventing excessive inflammation. Over 70% of patients with mild to moderate COVID had these autoantibodies, contrasting with blood autoantibodies associated with severe cases. Researchers are developing a nasal swab test to predict infection severity, which could enhance treatment options and be adapted for other respiratory viruses.
