Democratic Representative Norma Torres has been re-elected to the U.S. House for California's 35th Congressional District, defeating Republican Mike Cargile. Torres, originally from Guatemala, has served in various political roles, including in the California state legislature and as mayor of Pomona. She co-founded the New Americans Caucus and is a member of the House Committee on Administration. The district encompasses communities east of Los Angeles.
