Alberta will add two legislature seats for the 2027 election due to population growth.

Alberta's government plans to increase its legislature seats from 87 to 89 for the 2027 election, citing significant population growth, which has reached nearly five million. Justice Minister Mickey Amery introduced Bill 31, proposing changes to the Electoral Boundaries Commission Act. This includes removing the requirement to respect municipal boundaries, allowing for more flexible redistricting. A committee will recommend how to implement the new seats and adjust existing boundaries.
