New Zealand will mandate e-invoicing for agencies to expedite small business payments by 2026.
New Zealand's government is implementing measures to expedite invoice payments to small businesses by mandating e-invoicing for agencies handling over 2,000 invoices annually, effective January 1, 2026. Agencies will need to pay 95% of e-invoices within five business days. By January 1, 2025, 90% of all domestic invoices must be paid within ten days. These changes aim to enhance productivity and efficiency, potentially saving $4.4 billion over the next decade.
