Maj. Gen. Suzanne Vares-Lum will become the director of the Asia-Pacific Center in early 2025.

Maj. Gen. Suzanne Puanani Vares-Lum, a retired Army officer with 34 years of service, will become the director of the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in early 2025. Currently president of the East-West Center, she has led efforts to recover from pandemic impacts and boost funding and enrollment. Vares-Lum is noted for being the first woman and first Native Hawaiian to lead the East-West Center.
