Stephen McCabe, the leader of Inverclyde Council and a Labour councillor for Inverclyde East, has been arrested and charged with domestic assault and breach of the peace. He has been released on the condition that he appears in court later. McCabe is currently suspended from the Labour Party pending an investigation. The party has stated it takes all complaints seriously and will follow its procedures for investigation. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
