Murray Sinclair, a pioneering Indigenous judge and TRC chair, has died at 73 in Winnipeg.

Murray Sinclair, a prominent Indigenous judge and chair of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), has died at 73 in a Winnipeg hospital. Born in 1951, he was a member of the Peguis First Nation and became the first Indigenous judge in Manitoba. Sinclair led the TRC from 2008 to 2015, documenting the impacts of residential schools and issuing 94 Calls to Action. He received numerous accolades, including the Order of Canada, for his advocacy for Indigenous rights.
