India's Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), launched in 2018, has allocated over Rs 1.1 lakh crore ($15 billion) for free hospitalization, benefiting over 79 million people. The scheme offers an annual health cover of Rs 5 lakh ($6,600) and aims to enhance healthcare access for vulnerable populations while reducing out-of-pocket costs by about 62%. Over 355 million Ayushman Cards have been issued, allowing access to 30,672 hospitals. However, around 400 million people in India still lack health coverage.
