A significant brush fire erupted in the Bronx near Van Cortlandt Park and the Major Deegan Expressway on Monday morning around 7:45 a.m. Large plumes of smoke were visible from the area, prompting warnings for local residents to avoid smoke and keep windows closed. Firefighters were actively working to control the blaze, which continued to burn as of 9 a.m., but the expressway remained open during the operations.
