The Yavapai-Apache Nation in Arizona has finalized a land exchange with the U.S. Forest Service, expanding its reservation in Verde Valley. The tribe will trade six private land parcels for five square miles of national forest land, part of their ancestral territory. Originally proposed in 1996, the agreement aims to enhance conservation efforts, protect the Verde River's headwaters, and provide housing and economic opportunities for the growing tribe.
