The Nunavut government has declared a state of emergency in Kimmirut, Baffin Island, due to a power outage that began two days ago, causing a complete loss of electricity. The Qulliq Energy Corporation is working to restore power while a warming center is set up at Qaqqalik School. A boil-water advisory is in effect, and residents are warned about carbon-monoxide risks from using gas appliances indoors. The emergency declaration lasts for 14 days.
