North Carolina grants state employees bereavement leave after Hurricane Helene, effective retroactively.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has enacted an Executive Order granting bereavement leave to state employees following Hurricane Helene. The policy allows up to 40 hours of paid leave for the loss of an immediate family member and up to eight hours for attending a colleague's funeral or memorial service. It applies retroactively from September 27, 2024, and is mandatory for Cabinet agencies, with other state entities encouraged to adopt it.
