Lincoln Police Department activates Automatic License Plate Readers, enhancing vehicle recovery efforts.

The Lincoln Police Department has launched its Automatic License Plate Readers (ALPRs) after a successful seven-month trial. Initially installed in 20 cruisers, the system helped recover 30 stolen vehicles and locate a homicide suspect. LPD plans to equip all cruisers with ALPRs in the coming years. The technology scans plates, alerts officers to flagged cases, and retains data for up to 180 days, costing $208 per vehicle monthly.
