Japan will launch an automated cargo transport corridor between Tokyo and Osaka by 2027.

Japan plans to create an automated cargo transport corridor, or "conveyor belt road," between Tokyo and Osaka to address a truck driver shortage and reduce carbon emissions. The trial phase is set to begin in 2027, with full operations anticipated by the mid-2030s. This unmanned system will use large, wheeled boxes on a dedicated highway lane, aiding in business deliveries and potentially expanding to other routes. Human drivers may still be needed for final deliveries.
