Azerbaijan seeks UNESCO World Heritage status for the Ateshgah Temple, a historic worship site.

Azerbaijan is working to add the Ateshgah Temple, or "House of Fire," to UNESCO's World Heritage List. Currently on the temporary list, the temple is located in Surakhani and has been a worship site for Zoroastrians, Hindus, and Sikhs since the 17th-18th centuries, built atop natural gas outlets. The Azerbaijani State Tourism Agency is preparing the nomination document, with the site attracting around 145,000 visitors each year.
