Odisha government imposes a seven-month fishing ban to protect endangered Olive Ridley turtles.

The Odisha government has implemented a seven-month fishing ban, from November 1 to May 31, to protect endangered Olive Ridley turtles during their mating and nesting season. The ban covers areas near the Dhamara, Devi, and Rusikulya river mouths, prohibiting all fishing activities within 20 kilometers of the coast. Enforcement will involve multiple agencies, and approximately 10,666 fishermen's families will receive one-time assistance of Rs 7,500 due to the ban.
